Example analysis

Golf swing analysis: a worked example

A drive filmed from behind, down the target line, on a phone at 24 fps: four and a half seconds and 108 frames. The golf view found the swing's moments from the skeleton and read the posture, tempo and hands from one camera.

The clip

A golfer at address with a driver, filmed from behind down the target line, with the tracked skeleton and joint angles drawn over the video.

At 24 fps impact falls between two frames, so the report gives the tempo with its margin (±0.4) rather than a falsely exact number.

Tempo

The backswing took 0.50 s from first move to the top and the downswing 0.29 s from the top to impact: a tempo of 1.7 : 1, against the app's guide of 2.5–3.5. At 24 fps impact falls between two frames, so the report gives the tempo with its margin, ±0.4, rather than a falsely exact number, and suggests filming at 60 fps or more to tighten the timings. Golf swing tempo explains the ratio.

The guides are the app's starting points from common coaching, not limits, and a number outside one is something to look at, not a fault in itself.

The spine angle held to the edge of its guide, but the hips moved 7.5 cm towards the ball by impact — the measurement behind early extension. The trail knee straightened 24° on the way to the top, and on the way down the hands came 8.7 cm further from the body than on the way up. Spine angle at address covers how posture is read down the line.

Centimetres are scaled from the golfer's height, and every position is read from one camera's 2D view — so these are best compared with the same golfer's own swings, filmed the same way.
